Family benefits in Greece in 2026
A family can get child benefit from OPEKA, the birth grant, special maternity leave, the heating allowance and the rent refund. Each benefit has its own income limits.
Three bodies pay family benefits: OPEKA, the welfare benefits agency; DYPA, the public employment service; and AADE, the tax authority. Each one judges by its own income limit.
For children
Child benefit from OPEKA is €28 to €140 a month for each child, depending on the equivalised income of the family. It is paid every two months.
For a birth
The birth grant runs from €2,400 for the first child to €3,500 from the fourth. An employed mother also gets special maternity leave from DYPA: €920 a month for 9 months.
For your home
The heating allowance depends on the fuel and the area, and rises by 20% for each child. The rent refund is one month of rent a year, up to €800 plus €50 for each child, with no application.
