How much tax is withheld from my pay?
How much tax your employer keeps each month.
At a glance
The answer, and what is worth knowing.
- On €1,500 gross with no children, the withholding is €134.66 a month.
- The minimum wage of €920.00 has €25.33 withheld.
- If you are 25 or under, the same €1,500 has €0.00 withheld.
How we calculate it
From the gross salary we take off the contributions to e-EFKA, the social security fund. What is left is the taxable pay of the month.
The taxable pay times the salaries of the year gives the income for the year. The 2026 scale, minus the reduction, gives the tax.
The tax for the year divided by the salaries is the withholding each month.
We checked the rules on 19 October 2026. The result is an estimate. It does not replace your payroll or your accountant.

Frequently asked questions
How is the withholding on a salary worked out?
Your employer works out the tax for the year, as if you were paid the same salary all year. It divides that by the salaries of the year, 14 or 12.
How much tax is withheld from the bonuses?
On the Christmas bonus, the same as on one salary. On the Easter bonus and the holiday allowance, half that on each.
Is the withholding the final tax?
No. It is an advance on the tax. Next year’s tax return works out the final tax, with all your income.
