How we calculate it
A car registered up to 31 October 2010, and every motorcycle, pays the amount for the class of its engine size. Each class has three amounts, one for each period of first registration.
A car registered from 1 November 2010 pays all its grams of CO2 times the euros of their band. From 2021, the WLTP scale applies.
An electric vehicle pays nothing. A hybrid registered up to October 2010 pays 60% of a conventional car, and nothing up to 1,548 cc.
After 31 December, the fine is 25% in January, 50% in February and 100% later. It never falls under €30.
By the month, the road tax is one twelfth of the year for each month on the road after a period laid up.
We checked the rules on 19 October 2026. The result is an estimate. It does not replace your payroll or your accountant.
