How to read your Greek payslip

How do I read my payslip?

Your payslip starts from your gross earnings for the month. It takes off e-EFKA contributions, 13.37%, and tax withholding. The rest is the net pay that reaches your account.

Each month your employer gives you a payslip, the εκκαθαριστικό: a sheet or a file with the earnings and the deductions of the month. You read it from top to bottom, like a receipt.

Earnings

The first group of lines is your earnings (αποδοχές): the base salary, the allowances in your contract, overtime and public holidays. Together they make your gross earnings for the month.

Deductions

The second group is the deductions (κρατήσεις). Your contributions to e-EFKA, the social security fund, are 13.37% of your gross pay. Tax withholding (ΦΜΥ) is the tax for the year divided by the salaries of the year.

Net pay

Gross pay minus the deductions gives the amount payable: your net pay. If the amount in your account is different, check whether the month had an advance, unpaid absences or a garnishment.

A quick check

Enter your gross pay in the “Gross to net” tool. If the net pay differs by a few cents, that is rounding. If it differs by more, ask the payroll office of your company.
